Today I did my share, in the nation building... These are the opening lines of a poetic rendition by Henry Barlow. He talks of two individuals who spend their days together but earn their bread differently. One is a senior government officer the other is a most junior worker{one is permanent secretary while the other is his driver}. It's very ironic as one complains of hunger pangs the other complains of ulcers due to the sumptuous lunch. Both are headed home after a day in building the nation. That can be slightly compared to the paying of taxes. As others are struggling with how to meet their tax returns because of the meagre income, others are struggling with keeping their huge non taxable salaries under taxed/non taxed. The difference between the two is not their level of education neither is place of birth but being a member of parliament in Kenya, a job that doesn't need brain but the mouth to speak when you're the benefactor. These Mp's also want to be congratulated when they do the obvious and mandatory i.e paying taxes. While other workers are threatened and even sued for failing to remit their tax returns on time or for failing to remit them even for a month. Remember both of them are building this nation but from different offices. Both love their nation Kenya! Long live Kenya?
